В Бразилии было 8400 политических узников, из которых тысячи пережили пытки. Количество политических заключенных в Уругвае составляло 60 тысяч, и согласно сведениям Красного Креста пытки там применялись систематически. Около 50 тысяч чилийцев и не менее 30 тысяч аргентинцев были подвергнуты пыткам. Поэтому 100 тысяч переживших пытки — это соответствует самым осторожным подсчетам. Rohter L. Движение «Монтонеро» возникло в ответ на диктатуру. Когда перонизм потерпел поражение, Хуан Перрон, находившийся за границей, призвал своих сторонников вооружиться и сражаться за восстановление демократии. Они откликнулись на призыв.
