В заключение

То, что современные подходы позволили установить относительно эволюции сложных систем, кратко можно резюмировать следующим образом. Основными элементами являются неравновесные системы, функционирование которых поддерживается каталитическими циклами в непрекращающихся потоках энергии; чередование детерминированного порядка в период стабильности с состояниями созидательного хаоса во время бифуркаций; наблюдаемая статистическая тенденция к увеличению сложности на последовательно повышающихся уровнях организации.

Автокаталитические и кросс-каталитические петли обратной связи преобладают в открытых динамических системах, далеких от равновесия, в силу высоких скоростей реакции и большой устойчивости. Но поскольку ни один самостабилизирующийся реакционный цикл не обладает полным иммунитетом от разрушения, постоянные изменения во внешней среде рано или поздно порождают условия, при которых некоторые самостабилизирующиеся циклы не могут функционировать. Системы достигают в своей эволюции точки, известной в теории динамических систем как катастрофическая бифуркация. Переход в системы третьего состояния, как показывают эксперимент и теория, существенно неопределен: он не является ни функцией начальных условий, ни функцией изменений управляющих параметров. Имеется эмпирически наблюдаемая вероятность того, что бифуркации приводят ко все более сложным системам, все более далеким от термодинамического равновесия. Со временем система обретает способность сохранять в течение более продолжительного периода более плотный поток свободной энергии и уменьшать свою удельную энтропию. Не будь такой вероятности, эволюция порождала бы случайный дрейф между все более высоко организованными состояниями вместо того, чтобы статистически необратимым образом приводить к созданию все более сложных и динамически неравновесных систем.

Все более высокие уровни организации достигаются, когда каталитические циклы одного уровня зацепляются и образуют гиперциклы — системы более высокого уровня. Так, молекулы возникают из комбинаций химически активных атомов; протоклетки возникают из последовательностей сложных молекул; эукариотные клетки возникают среди прокариотных; многоклеточные появляются среди одноклеточных и конвергируют к еще более высокому уровню экологических и социальных систем.

Все эти факты и процессы относятся ко всем областям природы — от фундаментального уровня субатомных частиц и атомов, составляющих все неисчерпаемое богатство мира, до самого сложного уровня организмов, образующих экологические и системы в биосфере Земли.
