Богдан Валентина Алексеевна, урожд. Иванова (р. 1911, в последние годы жила в Англии). Родилась в буржуазной и религиозной семье в г. Кропоткин (быв. хут. Романовский, Краснодарский край); отец железнодорожник; четверо братьев и сестер. В 1929 окончила школу, в 1929-1934 училась в Краснодарском институте пищевой промышленности. В 1934-1935 ассистент на кафедре машиноведения, в 1935 инженер Ростовского комбайнового завода, в 1936-1942 конструктор, затем главный инженер Ростовского мукомольного комбината. В 1939 вступила в партию. В 1942 бежала на Запад. Воспоминания: «Студенты первой пятилетки», опубликованы в 1973 в Буэнос-Айресе; «Мимикрия в СССР. Воспоминания инженера, 1935-1942 годы, Ростов-на-Дону», вышли в 1986 во Франкфурте-на-Майне.

Ваньят Людмила Сергеевна, урожд. Криц (р. 1919). Отец инженер Китайско-Восточной железной дороги, мать педагог; одна сестра. Выросла неподалеку от границы с Китаем, в Чите, воспитывалась в соответствии с гуманистическими идеалами. В 1936 окончила школу, поступила в Московский институт инженеров транспорта. В 1937 ее отец был расстрелян. В 1940 бросила учебу. Воспоминания: интервью, данное автору в марте 1994 в Москве.

Гайлит Андрей Андреевич (р. 1905). Родился в интеллигентной латышской семье; отец техник, рано умер; мать медсестра; один брат. Безоблачное детство провел в Гатчине под Петербургом. В 1920 вступил в комсомол, был делегатом на пленуме Гатчинского укома, занимался комсомольской работой, в 1924 окончил школу в Петрограде. В 1924-1929 учился в Ленинградском технологическом институте, был членом студенческого совета, делегатом на съезде профсоюза работников химической промышленности, ездил во Францию. С 1928 работал в алюминиевой промышленности: в Волхове, в НИИ в Днепропетровске, в конце 1930-х гг. возглавил Волховский алюминиевый завод, сотрудничал с французскими фирмами; в 1938 стал жертвой кампании против инженеров, в 1951 был понижен в должности. Воспоминания: «Хроника одной жизни, почти полностью посвященной комсомолу, партии и алюминиевой промышленности» (1980), хранятся в РГАЭ (Ф. 332. Оп. 1.Д. 103).
