Доктор медицины Станислав Гроф — врач и учёный, отдавший более сорока лет исследованиям необычных состояний сознания и духовного роста. Он родился в Праге, 1 июля 1931 года. В 1956 году получил диплом врача от Медицинской школы Карлова университета в Праге и степень доктора наук от Чехословацкой академии наук. С 1956 по1967 г. С. Гроф — практикующий психиатр-клиницист. В этот же период он активно изучает основы психоанализа и принимает участие в новаторских научно-исследовательских проектах. В 1959 году он удостаивается премии Кюфнера — национальной Чехословацкой награды, ежегодно вручаемой за наиболее выдающийся вклад в области психиатрии. Начиная с 1961 года он возглавляет исследования применения ЛСД и других психоделиков для лечения психических расстройств.

В 1967 году, как стипендиат Фонда поощрений психиатрических исследований (США), он получил возможность пройти двухлетнюю стажировку в Университете Джона Хопкинса. Затем продолжил научно-исследовательскую деятельность в Мэрилендском центре психиатрических исследований. С 1973 по 1987 год С. Гроф живёт и работает в Эсаленском институте (Биг-Сур, Калифорния, США). В этот период вместе с женой Кристиной он разрабатывает технику холотропного дыхания — уникальный метод психотерапии, самопознания и личностного роста.

Станислав Гроф является одним из основателей Международной трансперсональной ассоциации (ITA), долгое время являлся ее президентом. Он также выступал в качестве организатора и координатора международных конференций в США, Индии, Австралии, Чехословакии и Бразилии. В настоящее время С. Гроф — профессор факультета психологии Калифорнийского института интегральных исследований, где преподаёт на двух факультетах: психологии и межкультурных исследований. Кроме того, он проводит обучающие семинары для профессионалов («Трансперсональные тренинги Грофа»), а также выступает с лекциями и семинарами по всему миру.

Станислав Гроф — автор и соавтор более ста статей и шестнадцати книг. Его тексты неизменно привлекают внимание как профессионалов, так и всех тех, кто интересуется самоисследованием и духовным ростом. Книги и статьи Грофа переведены на двенадцать языков, включая немецкий, итальянский, испанский, португальский, голландский, шведский, датский, русский, чешский, польский, китайский и японский.
